Footdee Cottage Refurbishment

Albyn Architects have completed work on this beautiful cottage refurbishment, within the conservation area of Footdee.

Footdee (Fittie) is a magical place, with perfectly aligned rows of cottages all formed around open spaces and with direct access onto Aberdeen beach.

When Albyn Architects were asked to provide a quote for carrying out works, it was an amazing experience to step inside one of these old cottages. Despite being deceptively large, the inside of the cottage had not been touched for many years and was in need of complete renovation.

The cottage was stripped back to the stone walls, with all the electrics, lighting, insulation and heating upgraded to current standards. Retaining the character was important, so the external openings all remained the same, with the exception of conservation style rooflights, allowing natural daylight into the vaulted roof of the living space.

Working with the client and builder was a pleasure, all working towards the same goal of creating something unique. Ensuring the cottage has pride of place within Fittie for the next 100 years.
